SADHANA

Born in 1941, Sadhana migrated to India from Karachi during the post-partition riots. Through difficult times, she saw movies and even her dad was influenced by cinema. In fact he had named his daughter Sadhana after the famous actress Sadhana Bose. Sadhana was destined to become an actress.

Sadhana started her career with the first Sindhi film that was made in India. For her debut film ‘Abana’ she was paid just Re1. But she had nothing to lose and everything to gain because she got noticed by ace filmmaker S Mukerji. Sadhana was cast in ‘Love In Simla’ (1960) opposite newcomer Joy Mukherjee. The writing was clear on the wall.

After that she kept giving good movies like ‘Hum Dono’ (1961), ‘Mere Mehboob’ (1963), ‘Rajkumar’ (1964) and ‘Waqt’ (1965). Out of the 19 films that she did, 11 were runaway successes and Sadhana became the most happening actress.

With soft romantic roles, she also did suspense thrillers like ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ (1964), ‘Mera Saaya’ (1966) and ‘Anita’ (1967). Some of her co-stars were Shammi Kapoor, Rajendar Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Manoj Kumar.

She made famous the Sadhana cut and tight fitting churidaar kameezes. In 1966, she married director R K Nayyar and left the industry for marital bliss. But that haunting beauty is still fresh in everyone’s mind.

BABITA

Babita came in the industry when there were many talented actresses like Mala Sinha and Meena Kumari around. But still she carved out a niche for herself and found a place in the industry. With her cousin the beautiful Sadhana around and about, she had to withstand many comparisons. But this was not to stop her from anything.

She has done movies with some of the top heroes of that time like Shammi Kapoor, Jeetendra and Biswajeet. But she got married to Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor and once married to him, she had to leave the industry.

But there should be nothing to worry for Babita has got two pretty daughters in Karisma and Kareena. With Karisma already a household name and younger daughter Kareena soon to follow suit, Babita has all the chances of realising her dreams in them.

GP SIPPY

Producer of  blockbusters like Sholay, Shaan and Shakti, G.P. Sippy is one of the surviving legends of the Hindi film industry. Not many may know the he was the pioneer of the Flat system in Bombay. Having started life in the construction industry, G.P. Sippy rose rapidly in the film world. Producer, director, he was the uncrowned king for several years. He was the President of the India Motion Pictures Producers Association, and then the All India Film Producers Association.

SANGEETA BIJLANI

This model turned actress did not have much luck with movies. She was a Miss India and a very successful model. Some of her popular ads were that of Ponds soap and Nirma which became famous because of her indomitable presence. But her films came to be known as damp squibs which were nowhere in comparison with her successful commercials.

Sangeeta Bijlani’s debut movie was ‘Hathyar’ (1989) opposite Dharmendra. Here was a mad scramble to have a good look at this beautiful actress who many thought had the capacity of dethroning many reigning queens of that time. But the films that followed were not good enough and she was remembered as only the good model that she was.

Some of her other films are ‘Jurm’, ‘Shivram’, ‘Yodha’, ‘Tahqeeqat’, ‘Yugandhar’ and ‘Nirbhay’. Her co-stars mostly were Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra, Sunny Deol and Mithun Chakraborty. She also had a serial ‘Chandni’ to her credit but it did not bring out the acting talent in her.

Now married to the ex-Indian cricket captain, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sangeeta Bijlani leads a happy life of an ideal housewife.
