Sindhi community irked over demolition of pyre sheds
CHANDRAPUR: Demolition of sheds in crematorium located on Datala Road along Irai river by anti-social elements has stirred the feelings of Sindhi community in the town.
After a formal complaint was filed by the elders of community, police have launched investigations to trace the culprits.
The incident came to fore on Sunday when the Sindhi community members went to the crematorium for funeral of one of the members of their community. People were shocked to see that the two pyre sheds built by PWD, were crushed to rubbles with the help of JCB machines. Agitated elders of the community immediately informed the senior police officers about the incident. While the police team reached the spot, the funeral was performed in another shed.
Crematorium located along the bank of Irai river is generally used by the people from Ramnagar, Sindhi colony, Naginabagh, Jagannnathbaba Nagar and Datala locality for funeral of their deceased people. Pyre and resting sheds at the crematorium were constructed by public works department at the place with the help of MP’s local area development funds at a cost of Rs 5 lakh over a decade back.
As the place is located in secluded area and no watchman has been deployed to the guard the crematorium, people failed to learn who destroyed the sheds in the crematorium. The scene however suggested that heavy JCB machines were used for demolishing the contraction.
